LabProbe by GCRflow

Print color inverse guidance and pressroom tracking

LabProbe is a bilingual browser-based tool for prepress operators, pressroom teams, and color technicians who need to compare a measured color with a target, estimate a practical CMYK file adjustment, and keep a traceable multi-round job record.

Available for calibrated digital-proof workflows. Delta E calculation works with comparable measurement conditions. CMYK inverse guidance uses the selected device template or the system default; accuracy depends on the actual device, media, RIP condition, and measurement workflow, so final measurements remain required.

What LabProbe does

CIELAB comparisonAccepts measured and target L*, a*, b* values, shows connected sRGB previews, and calculates color difference.
Four ΔE formulasSupports CIEDE2000, CMC 2:1, CIE76, and CIE94 for comparison and workflow preference.
Calibrated CMYK guidanceUses current CMYK percentages with measured and target Lab values to suggest file-percentage changes and a proposed CMYK result. The solver can use a device-specific TC1617/P2P template or the system digital-proof default.
Digital-proof calibration labAccepts CGATS, TI3, IT8, TXT, CSV, or TSV files with Lab or XYZ data. It auto-detects TC1617 and P2P51 layouts across supported i1 and Barbieri exports, combines repeated scans, and saves private device templates. TC1617 builds the full baseline; P2P51 can update a matched full baseline as a maintenance layer.
Per-channel controlLets the operator lock or open C, M, Y, and K independently before solving.
Process selectionProvides unlaminated, gloss-laminate, and matte-laminate workflow choices.
GCR advisoryCan present a four-channel gray-replacement suggestion and estimated ink-saving context when the current values support it.
Instrument-screen OCRReads L*, a*, b* values from a captured instrument LCD image. Recognition runs on the device and the image is not uploaded by the OCR workflow.
Jobs and pressesOrganizes work by account, press, job number, process, target, and measurement state.
Closed-loop roundsSaves intermediate rounds without changing the job number, supports continuing a previous job, and records final verification.
Private cloud historySigned-in users can synchronize press profiles, inverse-solve records, closed-loop progress, and job details.
Mobile PWACan be added to a phone home screen. The application shell has an offline fallback; server-based solving and cloud synchronization require a network connection.
Operational settingsIncludes theme and default-formula preferences, service diagnostics, feedback, cache controls, and deliberately protected history deletion.

Typical workflow

  1. Enter the current CMYK percentages or start with the clearly marked demo values.
  2. Enter or scan the measured and target Lab values.
  3. Select the process and ΔE formula, then lock any CMYK channels that must not change.
  4. Run an inverse solve and review the suggested file-percentage changes and predicted ΔE00.
  5. For production records, sign in, select a press, save the round, continue remeasurement as needed, and complete final verification.

Important boundaries

LabProbe is a decision-support tool, not a measuring instrument and not an automatic press controller. It does not replace a spectrophotometer, a calibrated production workflow, pressroom judgment, proofing, or final visual and numerical verification. CMYK and GCR outputs are adjustment guidance and must be checked against the real substrate, ink, press condition, process, and production constraints.

The current system default is a historical M1 TC1617 digital-proof data set and is only a starting point. A TC1617 or matched P2P51 maintenance template is marked ready after structural checks, not after an accuracy certification. Independent verification prints and closed-loop measurements remain required.

Language and access

The interface automatically uses Chinese when the browser’s primary language is Chinese; every other primary language receives English. A manual English/Chinese switch is available and the selection is remembered on that device. The application is available at lab.gcrflow.com.
